NaNoWriMo Update And Nothing Else

Decided to pack it in after 2273 words, bringing me to a total of 24,690. That's pretty close to halfway there. I've been averaging 1899 words a day, including the two days where I didn't really write much at all. At this rate, if I can keep it up, the NaNoWriMo website shows a trend toward finishing around the 26th.
The characters are being a lot more sexual than I had intended. In part, this is because of an event earlier in the story, but they are not yet aware of it. One of them has begun to suspect what's going on, though. She's the only one who would be able to do anything about it, but she is still deciding if she wants to. After all, if she does, it might turn out that what she had wanted, and had gotten, will slip away from her.
Not yet sure what these events have to do with the larger story arc, but I'm sure that I'll find out. Yay, picaresque!

Date: 2012-11-14 05:07 am (UTC)I am still wavering between young adult and adult fic right now, so I am taking any romance super slow with emphasis on courtship instead, and sex is not on the radar just yet. My story is, in many ways, set at a boarding school for older students (mid-teens to early 20s).
I haven't even really decided if the conflict in the story is going to involve serious injury or not. Any injury will be non-fatal, to be sure, but I am not entirely certain how far I want it to go. I have one character frothing for death, but I don't know how far I want those following her to go before they think for themselves. Going YA wasn't exactly my goal, but it wasn't really outside of it either. Yup, my book is full of wishy-washiness on my part until I put the words down. I am just kind of waiting to see where it goes right now, really.
Sometimes all we can do is make sure the belt is buckled and hang onto the bar.
