I loved it when they got on TV to do a press conf. About hairstyles! I think I cheered.

[identity profile] wire-mother.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
it was such an indictment of the journalistic institution that the reporters present could only come up with one - one - hair-related question.

[identity profile] synabetic.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
It was a good one too, I have to admit.

But the whole thing was ridiculous, the hairstyle thing being the only issue worth talking about.

I love how later the same people who freaked made jokes about it... AFTER they fucked these guys, of course.

Merica.

well, the upside is that they got off with an apology and community service. personally, i think they should have been apologized to, but people suck.

Totally. But they need haircuts, so who cares how they feel? Certainly not FOX.

I vow to keep this memory pure and unstained by revisionism!

as long as we remember, it'll be that much harder for the fearmongers to terrorize us.

And I totally agree with needing to remember the inanity of the subject. I am extremely disappointed that the first cartoon can't seem to do that without using derogatory terms that state "They're stupid, worthless, and too emotional, therefore they're like women."

[identity profile] wire-mother.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
i think that, for many people, "pussy" refers to "weak as a kitten". the usage went the other way, from kitten to woman (note that, in French, the equivalent slang is "chat"), so calling a woman's genitalia "pussy" is derogative, but calling someone a "pussy" is not calling them feminine (unless one equates femininity with weakness, either physically or metaphorically).

as for "sobbing", again, unless one equates femininity with emotionality, it has nothing to do with saying "they're like women".

[identity profile] wire-mother.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
that's spiffy.
